TAMPA, OCALA, AND ST. AUGUSTINE FLORIDA

As we headed further north in Florida on the west coast we found a lovely RV resort in Tampa to stay at for about 10 days.  We made lots of nice friends and joined bike groups etc. We even went on an 18 mile bike ride with them.  OMG!!!   It was a fun and active community and we hope to return there.

We went to a beautiful wildlife preserve near Tampa and had a great time nature walking and taking in all the beautiful wildlife.
Great Horned moma and baby Owls in their nest.

Intense Osprey

Bald Eagle nest with teenager Eaglets

A Gopher Tortoise

Handsome Black Vulture posing for a pic

Further north near the Ocala area we did some sightseeing.  We went to visit the real Suwannee River.....just like the song.  Beautiful.  Needless to say that song played in my head for days.

Brown Water Snake basking after a meal

Another water snake.....can't remember the name.

Ahhhhh Florida's Laws

Next stop was Saint Augustine where we visited the old city and learned about the history.

The oldest wooden schoolhouse in the U. S. A.  Very cool.

The area inside this fence actually belongs to Spain.

The Flag of Spain

Life sized statue of Ponce de Leon.  He was only 4 ft. 11 in.!!

Crazy Hammer

Glass O'Wine near the old fort

This plant was used in defense of the fort. It is called Spanish Sabre.

More Spanish Sabre plant.

  1. Really spectacular photos of all the birds! I love reading the history of all the places you visited :) By the time you make it back home it may not look as lush and green as you've been used to... but we'll get there sometime soon! :)

  2. Aww, the owls! And the wooden schoolhouse is cool. A slightly smaller Woodbridge School : ) Great pics! I could totally see you guys living down there. Minus the ginormous snakes of course.
